Zur letzten Build-Konferenz veröffentlichte Microsoft die Desktop Bridge, welche es Entwicklern erlaubt existierende Desktop-Programme (Win32) und Games auf die Universal Windows Plattform, kurz UWP, zu portieren. Gleichzeitig ermöglicht dies auch Entwicklern Funktionen wie Cortana oder Xbox Live in ihre Programme zu integrieren. Außerdem lassen sich die Programme ohne Probleme über den Windows Store verteilen/ verkaufen.
Diese Möglichkeit soll Entwickler vor allem mit der Windows Plattform vertraut machen, sodass von Zeit zu Zeit die App immer mehr universal wird bis sie dann irgendwann auch auf Xbox und Mobile läuft.
Die ersten konvertierten Apps sind nun verfügbar
Wie Microsoft heute in einem Blog-Post bekannt gab, stehen auch schon bald die ersten konvertierten Apps zur Verfügung. Dabei ist unter anderem Evernote, welches ihr euch → hier ← aus dem Store laden könnt, Arduino IDE, Double Twist, PhotoScape, MAGIX Movie Edit Pro, Virtual Robotics Kit, Relab, SQL Pro, Voya Media, Predicted Desire und korAccount.
Voraussetzung für die neuen Apps ist das Anniversary Update, welches ihr euch über Windows Update laden könnt oder → hier ← als ISO für ein Inplace-Upgrade.

Den Desktop App Converter gibt’s nun auch im Store
Zusätzlich zu den Programmen oben wird auch die Desktop Bridge, bzw. der Desktop App Converter ab sofort über den Store verteilt, was den Vorteil hat, dass Aktualisierungen und neue Funktionen alsbald beim Nutzer ankommen.
Außerdem arbeitet Microsoft mit den 3 größten Installer-Herstellern zusammen, welche Flexera Software vom InstallShield, FireGiant von WiX und Caphyon vom Advanced Installer wären und die Desktop Bridge direkt in ihre Produkte einbauen, sodass Entwickler direkt aus dem bekannten Workflow heraus app packages erstellen können.
