Some new stuff for Clist Nicer+

I’ve done some work on clist_nicer+ the last few days to fix a few problems and enhance a few things.

The embedded contact lists (like in the ignore or typing notify option dialogs) now appear unskinned and even more simplified. Basically, they look like clist_classic now and use the colors and fonts which have been set as dtefault. They ignore all skin item definitions (basically everything on the Background+ page).

This makes them easier to use and easier to read, also, no matter how you configured your skin, the embedded contact lists will always be easy to read and not waste too much space.

Slow and/or delayed redraws while protocols are connecting should be fixed.

New sorting method added. Inspired by an idea from Scott, I added a Sort by message frequency sorting method. It considers the frequency of received messages to sort contacts. A high message frequency will put contacts on top of the list or group, while a lower frequency will place them at the bottom.

Please note a few things regarding this feature:

* This feature will work better over time. When used for the first time, the contact list gathers some information about the message frequency of the last 100 days. This is, however, not 100% accurate. Over time, the sorting should become better, because the clist updates the message frequency data everytime you receive a new message - the more you chat, the more accurate the data will become, but in the beginning it is more like a “guess” - although, the most active contacts should still appear on top of the list or group.

* It only considers message events - all other events are ignored for building the statistical data.

* The message frequency is simply the average time between received message events from a given contact, so this sorting method will prioritize contacts who send you messages often.



Skinning internal frames It is now possible to define skin elements for the frame borders (not only the frame title bars). This works best with image based skinning which is in the works and will be released soon. To illustrate what it means, just look at the picture. Note that all frames have a skinned border (which is actually a PNG image). With a fully transparent contact list, this can create some pretty cool results - it will just look like several independant windows with spacing between them, each of them having its own skinned title bar.

Skinning for clist_nicer+ almost complete

With the addition of 2 features to the skinning engine, it is now fairly complete and only needs some polishing until it will be published.

A new skin item is available which can be used to skin the border of any avatar on the list. This can by a 32bit png image with per-pixel transparency, and will just be painted “over” the avatar - so there are some nice effects possible - it can be used to colorize the avatars or to give them a nice border.

The scroll bar is now skinnable.

Skinnable and freely placeable buttons have been added.

Development Updates/Repository Changes Notice

We are in the process of final testing for the upcoming release and wanted to let everyone know of some of the changes that are occuring.

First, the Miranda IM v0.4.3 has been renamed to 0.5. The testing version was too confusing with the last stable release, v0.4.0.3. The plan is to make the next major release after v0.5 to be called v0.6 and so on.

Also note that if you are using subversion to get the latest updates, you will need to switch the branch you are using the stay up-to-date with v0.5. The new location of the branch is at:

The current trunk will be used for future 0.6 development. However, it is not to be considered stable and for general use. If you wish to work with the latest code for the upcoming release, please use the new 0_5_x branch.

On a personal note I have moved my dbRW project to a new location and have restarted its development.

Skin editor

Today, I made the decision to outsource the skin editor for clist_nicer+ and make it an extra plugin.

That means, the old Background+ page will soon vanish from clist_nicer+ and a new dialog will be added to the customize section when the skin editor plugin is loaded.

The reasons are quite simple: Since clist_nicer+ and tabSRMM share roughly the same skinning engine (+ skin file format), the skin editor can later be used for both plugins. Also, as an extra plugin it can save memory and other resources for people who don’t want to edit skins but only want to load existing ones.

It also means, that I’ll probably improve the skin editor with some features for editing image items and give it a better, more user-friendly user interface than it currently has (that Background+ page is really ugly and overloaded with UI elements now and badly needs some improvements…)

Miranda IM v0.5 Build #57

We’re entering the final testing phase. As Robert said, we changed the version from 0.4.3.x to 0.5.0.x, so 0.5.0.57 is the ’stable’ build, with all core plugins frozen for adding features. Now only critical bugs would be fixed, the release is close.

This build contains some fixes for YAHOO, Aim & IcqOscarJ protocols. Also some minor bugs were fixed in Jabber.
